Collecting Gastric Bypass Recipes

For a few weeks after gastric bypass surgery the patient will be drinking mainly liquids. However, as time goes by they are able to eat specially cooked low fat foods in small portions. The following recipes will fit well into an individual's gastric bypass diet and are delicious as well. For those who have a small problem with hot or spicy herbs you can remove or reduce the amounts.

Gastric Bypass Recipes - Herbed Chicken Breasts

1 lb of skinless, boneless chicken breasts (about 4 pieces)

8 oz of sliced fresh mushrooms (about 3 cups)

1 teaspoon Italian herbs

½ teaspoon of garlic

½ teaspoon of paprika

½ teaspoon of crushed pepper

¼ teaspoon of salt

¼ cup of chicken or vegetable broth

Mix together the Italian herbs, garlic, pepper, salt and paprika and rub all over the chicken breasts. Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat then place the chicken breasts. After 3 minutes turn the chicken and cook for another 3 minutes. Lower the heat then add the broth and mushrooms. Cover and cook for up to 7 minutes, or until no pinkness remains in the thickest part of the breast.

Gastric Bypass Recipes - Macaroni and Low-fat Cheese

1 packet (8oz) of macaroni pasta

8 oz cooked, lean ham cut into cubes

1 tin (8oz) evaporated skim milk

½ cup skim milk

pinch of salt and white pepper

1 tablespoon low fat butter

12 oz of low-fat cheese loaf cut into cubes

2 tablespoons finely chopped onion

½ cup chopped green onion

Boil the macaroni in water according to package instructions. Add the ham in the last 5 minutes of cooking. Drain out the water well. In another pot, combine the macaroni and ham with the milk, salt and pepper, butter, cheese and onions. Cook over low heat while covered until the cheese melts, stirring the mix occasionally, but avoid overcooking. Sprinkle with green onion and serve.

Medium pineapple

One papaya

One mango

Two pears

Two apples

A packet of strawberries

One container low fat cool whip

Peel and cut all the fruits into cubes and mix in a large bowl. Add the cool whip Chill for at least one hour, longer if possible as it improves the flavor. Bananas are a great addition but you need to stir them in right before serving so they will not darken

Gastric Bypass Recipes - Easy Chilled Cucumber Soup

1 large cucumber, coursely chopped

1 scallion roughly chopped

3 cups of plain yogurt, preferably fat-free

1 medium tomato seeded and diced

Fresh chopped dill, about 3 tablespoons – plus some extra put aside to garnish

Salt, freshly ground black pepper

Olive oil

Blend together the cucumber, yogurt, scallion and dill till it becomes a puree. Season with salt and pepper. Scoop the mix into separate bowls. Garnish the top with tomato dices, chopped dill and a drizzle of olive oil. Chill a little before serving.

Gastric Bypass Recipes - Low-fat Ricotta Cheesecake

4oz of low-fat cream cheese or Ricotta cheese

½ cup of dry package cheesecake mix

2 cups of halved strawberries

1 cup low-fat or no-fat milk

½ cup of non-dairy whipped cream

4 teaspoons of artificial sweetener

Blend together the cheese, cheesecake mix and milk. Pour out into a clean bowl and then fold in the whipped cream. Scoop out a little of the pudding mix into individual bowls and then put some strawberries. Repeat this layering of mix and fruit until all the pudding is used up. Garnish the top with extra strawberries.
